Eclectic, arty and foodie, bustling.
Food options, grocery options, pet food options and list goes on. Open Sat mornings
The venue is at an ideal location. Vast spaces for visitors to walk around and/or enjoy their meals/drinks and plenty of parking bays help to alleviate any traffic congestion. What sets it apart from the rest of the other markets is that there is a vast variety of services present to attend to the young and the not so young.
Weekend market with many breakfast stalls serving a wide variety of interesting food, though not exactly cheap. Only one coffee stall though and there was a long queue for coffee. Perfect weekend morning market vibe. There was even a live band performance. The whole experience was more like a festival. Love it.
Delicious food that you can eat there while enjoying live music, such as Bratwurst or lemon meringue pie. Additionally there are lots of different local and reasonably priced vegetables, fruit, eggs, honey and meat.
The Subi farmers market is more of a perennial pop-up 'street market'. It generally operates on Saturday mornings, and is located within the boundaries of Subiaco primary school.
You will easily see the trail of locals and curious visitors wandering in and out of the grounds (or crossing the road) on most Saturday mornings, especially if you happen to be driving along Bagot road, and pass near the school.
The market has certainly stood the 'test of time'!! I'm fairly sure it's been going for at least a decade, and shows no signs of weakening (although things got a bit quiet during pandemic times).
The perfect place to take the kids on a Saturday morning to keep them occupied. You are often welcomed by a motley band of ukulele players (of different ages and backgrounds). As you walk through the market, there are a delightful variety of food stalls, such as Mexican (or is it Colombian), and other South American cuisine, German sausage, Greek pastries, crepes and the like.
There's a terrific coffee spot and also a fresh juice stall. Both always have a short queue of people, wanting their 'morning fix'.
There are also all sorts of odd or interesting stalls, eg offering locally made jewellery, knife sharpening, pizza bases, French pastries, dog treats (straight from the farm), olives, meats, cheeses, flowers etcetera.
Of course, this is not to mention the produce market itself - which is undercover at one end of the market.
Most Saturday mornings, you can ' people watch', simply by sitting on one of the small plastic stools in the heart of the market. With your brekky and drinks, you'll also enjoy live music played by a local band, whether playing jazz, creole, or pop.
At the back of the market, there's a playground for the kids, an oval to walk the dogs, and lots of open space and tables to enjoy food and banter with the locals.
The place usually operates from quite early on a Saturday morning, and starts to 'wind down' at around 12 noon- 1o'clock ( depending on how busy it is).
The 'Market' is believed to be the 'brainchild of "Greg and Debs", 2 local Legends, who were active on the Parents and children committee at subi primary for many many years. We often bump into either of both of them on the odd occasions when we are visiting the markets, and it's always a pleasure to see them.
If you happen to live in the area, but have not yet been to the subi farmers market, you may need to check your local 'accreditation'!! Several 'tours of Duty' to the markets are essential for local integration.
Ask anyone.😉
Very pleasant Saturday morning spent. There's a pet the farm animal corner where $3 entry per kids & an accompanying adult allows us to pet sheep, ducks, chickens & rabbits with no time restrictions. Life band singing & standard fresh produces. The Subiaco Primary School playground at the other end of the school field is very nice & fun. Our 7yo girl & her parents enjoyed it immensely.
Quite a good option for a weekend breakfast if you visit Perth. Bring your picnic mats if you prefer to enjoy your breakfast in their open field. Lots of pastry options but we mainly went for hot food, Moroccan Shak Shak, Bratwurst and Bacon Egg Sandwich 🥰 …
What a lovely market. From a stall holders point I have been really loving coming every week. Ana the organiser is so wonderful to work with, organised and accommodating. Every week there is something new to see and do along with many faves. Great spot for the whole family, for breakfast, gifts, sweet treats or something to do with the kids ❤️
